The experts from Bouygues Energies & Services implemented a reliable alarm solution for the Emmental Hospital to ensure the safety of employees at all times. Among other things, the newly installed solution is designed to be maintenance-free, easy to use and able to pinpoint the exact location of the threat.
As an employer, it is our responsibility to ensure a safe working environment for our staff. In particular, employees who have in-person consulting duties should feel safe at all times and be able to call in support quickly if necessary. Emmental Hospital provides medical care, including emergency care, to a population of over 130,000 people. More than 1,500 employees at the two locations in Burgdorf and Langnau attend to the well-being of patients around the clock and cover almost all of their healthcare needs. Over 10,000 inpatients and over 65,000 outpatients are treated at Emmental Hospital every year. It has 175 beds available for inpatient stays, plus 51 beds in the psychiatric ward, 8 beds in the intensive care unit in Burgdorf and 4 beds in the intermediate care unit in Langnau. Emmental Hospital also runs an ambulance and rescue service alongside outpatient and inpatient psychiatric care for its service area.
In order to ensure the safety of staff in selected areas, the hospital commissioned the ICT specialists from Bouygues Energies & Services in Switzerland to implement a reliable alarm solution. This needed to be able to transmit threat alerts and the exact location of the incident in question to a specific group of people. In the event of an emergency, the customer wanted the system to trigger a threat alert when a member of staff pressed an inconspicuous alarm button on their clothing, without making their assailant aware that this had been done. If the connection could not be established or the alarm button happened to be out of range of the mobile device, a notification would be sent to their mobile device. Last but not least, the solution needed to be as low-maintenance and easy as possible for staff to use. The customer was keen for the administrator to be able to maintain the system on site.
In order to meet the full security needs of Emmental Hospital and its employees, the ICT department of Bouygues Energies & Services analysed the existing infrastructure and then implemented the customer’s alarm solution as a separate client, with services hosted on the Bouygues alarm cloud platform. novaBEACONs were placed in selected consultation rooms. The novaalert mobile app and connected alarm button means that the exact location of a threat situation is transmitted to the intended group of people along with the alarm by means of a beacon scan.
On PCs, the alarm is sent with the novaalert desktop client. If a threat alarm is triggered, staff can initiate the escalation process via novaCHAT and inform each other about the progress. Each member of the alarm group can see who is logged in to the group and who has acknowledged the alarms. If a person in the alarm group is absent, that person logs out of the group. Thanks to the detailed reporting, all alarms can be traced at any time.
